Early Intervention

Toddler group with guitar

Serving children from birth to three years of age, The Arc’s early intervention program, known at the Infant/Toddler Program, is family-centered. In accordance with Alabama’s Early Intervention System, eligible infants and toddlers are those who:

  • Exhibit developmental delays of at least 25% in one of more of the five developmental areas: cognitive, communication, adaptive/self help, physical/motor and social/emotional
  • Have a diagnosed condition which has a high probability of resulting in a developmental delay

All services are provided in the child’s natural environments, usually at home or a day care center.
Initial comprehensive evaluations and ongoing developmental assessments as well as speech, physical and occupational therapies, special instruction, family training and social/psychological services are provided to stimulate learning and to support and empower families. Music therapy is also available to families in this program.
