The Arc of Madison County was founded in the late 1950s by a group of parents seeking services and support for children with disabilities. One of their first achievements was raising enough funds to place the first special education teacher in the Huntsville City School system.
Once free and appropriate education became a mandate for children with disabilities, the Arc’s focus was able to broaden; becoming an advocate for all those with disabilities – from infants to adults.

Privacy Concerns of Donors
The Arc will not share personal information about donors outside of the organization. Information collected on donors through The Arc’s website includes name, address, payment method, etc. This information will be viewed by designated employees only for the purpose of completing the payment transaction. Information obtained through donations made by check or items will be acknowledged by letter and the information will kept in a file only accessible to accounting employees. An electronic file will be maintained of donors that is only accessible to accounting employees. A donor can contact the Executive Director and/or Chief Financial Officer to learn what information has been collected by The Arc, how the information will be used and what security measures The Arc has in place to protect personal information.
